Welcome to Lewisham,

London Borough of Culture 2022

We are thrilled that Lewisham has been named London Borough of Culture by the Mayor of London. In 2022, an ambitious, year-long programme of events will celebrate all of our neighbourhoods, our communities and our stories.

With a call to action on the climate emergency and a celebration of our diverse communities, the programme will put critical issues at its heart, amplifying voices and creating a lasting legacy to inspire positive change.

Get ready for a whole-borough celebration. From venues to parks and street corners, Hundreds of thousands of people will participate across the year, celebrating Lewisham’s rich history of cultural activism through music, dance, public art and more.

About the Award

Introduced by the Mayor of London Sadiq Kahn in 2017, the London Borough of Culture award is a competition that sees London’s 32 boroughs bid for more than £1m of funding to stage a programme of cultural events and initiatives.

The award brings Londoners together, putting culture at the heart of local communities and shining a light on the character and diversity of London’s boroughs.

The Team

The programme for Lewisham’s Borough of Culture year is being led by Lewisham Council with The Albany as the lead delivery partner. We are also working collaboratively with multiple partners across the borough.
